On the 8th of June, World Oceans Day is celebrated and Route Portugal is again organising the event "Aquele Abraço - Embracing the Sea" a symbolic and collective act in order to draw the attention of the population to the urgency of caring for the seas and ecosystems coastlines, the embracing act will be happening after beach clean up in Carcavelos Beach at Cascais - Lisbon, Portugal.
The event symbolises the act of preserving the most natural environment: the beach, the sea and the sands. The act of embracing carries great symbolism at this time in the world, bringing a sense of belonging, welcome, affection, well-being and, above all, community.
We want to bring together all organisations and movements that collaborate with these goals. According to SDG 14 - Protect marine life, conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources, prevent and reduce marine pollution of all types, in particular from land-based activities.
