Čista obala – Clean Coast is Slovenia’s largest coastal cleanup, held every September since 2009 as part of the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), the world’s biggest volunteer action for clean seas. The 2025 edition marks the 16th Čista obala and the 40th anniversary of the ICC. Hundreds of volunteers – families, schools, NGOs, companies, and local communities – will join forces to clean the Slovenian coast from Lazaret, border with Italy to Sečovlje, border with Croatia. Together, we collect and categorise marine litter, raising awareness of the problem of plastic pollution and building a valuable long-term dataset. But Čista obala is more than a cleanup. After the action, volunteers gather in Strunjan for a community picnic, workshops, science stands, guided tours, and educational activities for children. It is a day of teamwork, knowledge-sharing, and celebration of our bond with the sea.
