The Sunset Beach Cleanup 2026 is a citizen-engagement initiative dedicated to coastal protection, marine litter prevention and ocean literacy. The event combines a beach cleanup with educational and participatory activities on marine litter, plastics and microplastics, circularity, waste separation, water sustainability and ocean protection. It is organised by the Municipality of Vila do Conde, the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) – University of Porto, CMIA – Centro de Monitorização e Interpretação Ambiental de Vila do Conde, and Counting Stars, together with several institutional and environmental partners. Through direct action and environmental education, the initiative contributes to the objectives of #EUBeachCleanup 2026, encouraging citizens to understand the links between waste, human behaviour and ocean health.
