Sustainable fisheries partnership agreement with Seychelles

Overview

Status: Dormant

The sustainable fisheries partnership agreement (SFPA) signed by the European Union and the Republic of Seychelles on 28 February 2020, lasts for six years and can be automatically renewed for another six years. The last fisheries protocol expired on 23 February 2026.

‘Dormant’ agreement is a fisheries partnership where an agreement exists, but no active protocol is in place. As a result, in absence of rules specifying catches and contributions, the EU fleet cannot conduct any fishing activity in the waters of Seychelles. This also applies to direct licencing, in line with the agreement’s ‘exclusivity clause’ and the Common Fisheries Policy Article 31(5).

Dormant agreements can still be used to discuss and cooperate on fisheries matters.
