The annual Fisheries Science Seminar, organised by the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries will take place on 25 September 2024. This year's seminar will focus on the potential contribution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) towards achieving fisheries sustainability.
The seminar will explore how the rapid developments in the area of AI can support the scientific process, as well as fisheries management and fishing operations.
The event will have presentations from experts showcasing successful fisheries science projects using AI. Participants will also engage in discussion groups to reflect on AI applications in fisheries, particularly on data collection and analysis, fisheries management and conservation, as well as potential benefits and challenges for fishermen.
By hosting this seminar, the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries seeks to facilitate dialogue, networking, and reflection on the state of scientific advice and research on fisheries. The outcomes of the seminar will help shape future policies and adjust current ones. It will also contribute to the internal training offered to colleagues, fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration with and within the institution.
The Fisheries Science Seminar will be a hybrid event, giving the audience the possibility to attend physically and online, but physical participation is strongly encouraged to fully benefit from interactions with experts and discussions.
