Euronews OCEAN Season 2, episode 1: Generational renewal

The workforce in the fishing sector is ageing and motivating young people to take up fishing careers has become increasingly difficult. The EU recognises the importance of building a new generation of fishers and is helping attract young people to the fishing sector.

In the first episode of the new season of Ocean Magazine, Euronews travels to Finland to film an EU-supported apprenticeship programme. Find out what they do to foster a new generation of local fishers and preserve a vital economic activity in this coastal area. The story continues offshore Ostend, Belgium, where teenage students of local maritime school get their first-hand fishing experience on board the “Broodwinner" training vessel, renovated with support from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF).

Tune into Euronews from 21 January @ 20:50 CET – on any platform.
