The #EUBeachCleanup Campaign 2024 is kicking off this week, right after World Oceans Day.

The #EUBeachCleanup is a campaign organised by the European Union in partnership with the United Nations, and with the friendly collaboration of the Smurfs.

It is key to raise awareness about marine pollution, and how our habits impact our ocean: it is estimated that up to 37 million tonnes of plastic waste will reach the ocean annually by 2040, greatly endangering marine life.

The campaign consists of clean-up events organised by institutions (EU Delegations and Representations, Europe Direct Centres, United Nations Regional Offices, etc.), NGOs, and citizens.

Last year, 555 events were organised in 44 countries, involving 45 733 volunteers. Let’s make it even bigger this year!

  • How can you join? To participate in the campaign, use the #EUBeachCleanup, organise an event in your region and register it on our website.

  • Until when will it last? Until October, with a peak on 20/09/204 – World Clean-up Day

To help spread the word, we have prepared ready-made social media material available on Google Drive or Trello. for you, to encourage people to participate in your event or to put up their own.

Don’t forget to tag our social media accounts (X: @EU_Mare, FB: @eumaritimefish, Instagram: @ourocean_eu) and to use the #EUBeachCleanup.
