Part of the Local Development Strategy for the fishing areas of Larnaca and Famagusta, the “Training Programme for Fishermen with Professional Fishing License category A and B for reissuance of Coastal Vessel Skipper Certificate” enabled fishers to attend a 32-hour course and renew their coastal vessel captain certificates. Led by an external expert selected through public tender, the programme included basic safety and medical first aid courses.
The same fishermen who first benefited from EMFF support to obtain basic safety training have now renewed their certifications and refreshed their skills through EMFAF, showing a continuous commitment to professional development and safety at sea. The training enhanced professional skills and qualifications, boosted career prospects, and increased income opportunities. It also enabled fishers to diversify into related activities such as fishing tourism and encouraged entrepreneurship, as participants learned to manage and promote their services more efficiently. Upon completion, all fishers received updated certificates, supporting the sustainable future and resilience of coastal fisheries communities.
