The project involves 14 Fishers' Associations, representing more than 700 fishers from 13 municipalities of the regions, as well as other entities involved in the fishery such as the administration, the scientific community and the commercial sector.
This initiative aimed to implement co-management by setting up a co-management committee, monitoring the resource (for example, finding out whether the octopus’s population is increasing or decreasing) and the fishery (identifying fishing sites and the duration and characteristics of the activity, as well as socio-economic issues), and developing a proposed management plan for the fishery.

Results
- In this project, 60 devices were placed on small-scale octopus fishing boats to monitor activity and find out the spatial and temporal distribution of fishing effort.
- Over 700 small-scale fishers were consulted and included in decision-making processes on octopus management in the Algarve.
- A co-management committee with fisheries, local authorities and researchers was created.
- The recommendations for the future co-management committee and the proposed Management Plan for this fishery were presented at the final forum of the project (December 2022), attended by the Secretary of State for Fisheries.
