Reaching out to school children and the broader public

Malta launched a campaign to raise awareness of sustainable fish consumption through cartoons, school presentations and media ads.

The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, in partnership with the Ministry for Education and Employment, launched an initiative, which includes the creation of an educational animated cartoon, an illustrated book and a hand-puppet of the campaign's mascot, all designed to engage and educate primary school children.

These materials have been distributed to schools across Malta and Gozo to serve as key teaching tools. The campaign also extended its reach to the general public through a series of adverts broadcasted on various media platforms. To further this effort, an open weekend event was organised, providing an opportunity for stakeholders to present and share valuable information with the public.

Results

  • Creation of awareness-raising material to promote sustainable fish consumption.
  • Increased awareness of the state of local fish stocks.
  • Greater awareness of the role of each individual in assisting conservation efforts.
