Local organisations and regional associations of the Czech Anglers Union have used EMFF funds to help restock declining European eel populations in accordance with Council Regulation (EC) Nº 1100/2007 of 18 September 2007, which established measures for the recovery of the European eel stocks.

From 2016-2017, a total of 130 adult eels were tagged and monitored during their migration. In the Odra river basin, the overall migration success rate was 57%; in the Elbe river basin, the overall migration success rate was only 1.3%.
