The Commission has launched a call for applications for the selection of members of the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF).
The STECF members support the European Commission by delivering scientific advice prior to the preparation of legislative proposals in the field of fisheries, aquaculture, and related matters, and by monitoring the evolution of the common fisheries policy (CFP).
The deadline for applications is 30 November 2024.
Requirements
The Commission is looking for candidates with competence and experience at EU (including outermost regions) and / or international level in one or more of the following areas:
- marine and fisheries biology, in relation to the implementation and evaluation of conservation policies;
- ecosystem approach to fisheries management and its implementation, marine ecosystems and food webs, marine protected areas, by-catches of sensitive species, impact of climate change on fish stocks, invasive species;
- technical knowledge of fishing techniques and fishing gear;
- scientific data collection in support of the CFP;
- conception, evaluation and assessment of (multi-annual) management plans;
- social and/or economic analysis of the fisheries, aquaculture and processing sectors, markets and the supply chain;
- aquaculture.

What does membership of the STECF entail?
Members of the STECF are appointed for a period of three years in a personal capacity.
They act independently and in the public interest.
In principle, the STECF meets three times per year during plenaries (March, July and November).
Members should:
- attend meetings of the STECF and of its relevant sub-groups (Expert Working Groups);
- contribute actively to discussions in the STECF;
- be involved in preparatory work ahead of meetings;
- examine and provide comments on documents under discussion;
- act, as appropriate, as 'rapporteurs' on an ad hoc basis.
The STECF working language is English.
