The CFP requires traceability to prevent illegal and unregulated fishing and to ensure that seafood consumers make well-informed decisions. This can be difficult due to inconsistencies in control systems, data availabilities, and IT networks among different regional and national authorities. Through EMFF funding, the Institute of Food Economics and Markets (IEM) in Bavaria addressed this issue through re-structuring and standardising digital control systems, improving the digitalisation of seafood market data and putting in place informational campaigns aimed at consumers. The project also allowed to improve the training of inspectors and the exchange between federal states and other EU Member States through joint meetings of monitoring bodies.
