Founded in 2021 on Kos Island, ASSEA Bioenergy & Biosoils is the only composting company in the South Aegean region. It produces natural products—Bio Compost ASSEA® and Bio Soil ASSEA®—using seaweed waste (Posidonia oceanica) as their primary ingredient.

Founded by Apostolia Tsampouniari, a mechanical engineer with expertise in recycling inert materials, ASSEA transforms organic waste such as winemaking stems, olive leaves, and plant residues into high-quality humus through aerobic thermophilic composting. The FLAG supported ASSEA in obtaining environmental licensing, preparing the installation site (including fencing and constructing a metal shelter), purchasing essential equipment (bagging unit and compost screener), securing quality certifications (organic agriculture use, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015), and developing their website.

Results

  • Establishment and equipping of a new business.
  • Creation of two innovative products for agriculture.
  • Development of new agricultural uses for organic green waste.
