The European Union is taking strong action to protect our seas and ensure fair fishing practices in the Mediterranean and Black Seas, following important progress made at last week’s annual session of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) in Málaga.

The Council of the European Union reached a political agreement on the fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea for 2026, following the Commission proposal made in August this year.

The European Commission has published two technical guidance documents to support EU countries in improving their systems for monitoring and controlling the engine power of fishing vessels.
