On the occasion of the European Year of Skills, this episode of Ocean focuses on the importance of developing skills and generational renewal for the blue economy.
It has the potential to drive sustainable economic growth and job creation in Europe, but it requires highly qualified and skilled professionals. Many sectors of the blue economy struggle to find the right people, which hampers their growth. However, several initiatives, such as EU-funded projects BRIDGES, MarLEM and ScienceDIVER, are working to close the knowledge gaps, up-skill or re-skill working professionals, and bring industry, high school, and administration together to meet the demand for blue skills. These efforts not only open up new and exciting career paths but also help protect the ocean from mounting dangers.
