Connecting researchers with the aquaculture sector

The TOME Aquaculture Centre offers entrepreneurs innovative technologies, expert training, and advisory services in the aquaculture sector, supporting skill development and industry growth.

This centre in Latvia, developed by the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health, and Environment (BIOR), bridges the gap between aquaculture entrepreneurs and scientific research. It provides access to innovative infrastructure, expert training, skills development, and advisory services to address industry challenges. The centre promotes knowledge transfer, cross-sectoral cooperation, and research using advanced technologies. It focuses on fish farming, health, feed breeding, and sustainable aquaculture practices in both freshwater and saltwater systems, aiming to transform cutting-edge research into practical solutions for the sector’s growth.

Results

  • Organised training seminars, conferences, and working groups with aquaculture farms, international experts, and scientific organisations.
  • Facilitated knowledge exchange and collaborative learning in an innovative setting.
  • Organised biannual lectures and best practice exchanges for aquaculture farms and university students.
  • Developed and implemented innovations to improve fish farming processes, boost production, and diversify Latvian aquaculture products.
