Pesca-tourism in the Mediterranean

A traditional fishing enterprise is transforming itself and now plans to get 60% of its income from pesca-tourism.

The Robi Zentilin fishing enterprise, located in the popular tourist town of Marano Lagunare, owns two boats: a mechanized dredge for shellfish and a small artisanal coastal fishing boat. The gradual decrease in catches from both shellfish dredging and gill netting has pushed the family towards pesca-tourism. The plan is that in the future tourism will account for 60% of their income.

Results

  • Equipment for one of the vessels, the ALICE II, to operate as a pesca-tourism boat.
  • Remodelling the promotors’ house to convert their porch into a dining room for clients, adding a kitchen to cook the fish caught, and turning the garden into a place where clients can relax.
  • Purchase of bicycles and picnic baskets to offer tourists as part of their visits to the hinterland of the lagoon.
