ADREPES FLAG supported the creation of this local business, Vertente Natural, in 2004 and has since continued to play an active, guiding role at key moments during the company’s development. Following a start-up grant, the FLAG helped Vertente Natural expand its offer from land-based tours to activities linked to the area’s maritime assets and coastal heritage. In particular, it supported the acquisition of nautical equipment and, subsequently, investment in an online marketing and booking platform. The most recent grant, in 2023, improved the service infrastructure in the Port of Sesimbra. Today, the company attracts approximately 30,000 national and international tourists annually.

Results
- Launch of a new business based on Sesimbra’s natural and maritime heritage, attracting visitors from nearby tourist areas such as Lisbon.
- Creation of 14 full-time year-round jobs, plus 10 seasonal jobs (May-October) for local youngsters.
- Provision of high-added-value, innovative and sustainable tourism in Sesimbra year-round.
- Development of an informal network between the adventure tourism sector and other stakeholders such as hotels and restaurants, which strengthens Sesimbra’s brand as a tourist destination.
